Refugees

(All information provided by Amnest International Australia)

Refugees are the result of human rights tragedies and deserve out understanding.
Every day people are forced to leave their countries becuse  they fear for their lives.  They are not "illegal immigrants" and "queue jumpers" but people exercising a basic human right.
International law says that governments should not punish asylum seekers because they were unabe to arrive through regular channels.  Yet the Australian Government locks these asylum seekers in remote detention centers, often for long periods.  No court has the pwer to release them.  No other comparable country has such harsh detention regimes.  Even those found to be refugees are given only limited rights.
